11 Yoga Positions For Better Sex

There are plenty of benefits when it comes to practicing yoga – Long, lean muscles. Increased flexibility. A stress-free headspace. But believe it or not, yoga can also heat up your bedroom and take your sex life to the next level.

ESU sat down with Loren Bassett, a professional yogi and all-around fitness expert. Her comprehensive boot camp-style yoga class – called Bassett’s Boot Camp – was even named “America’s Toughest Workout” by Marie Claire Magazine. Today, she’s giving our Daily Quickie readers the inside scoop into 11 yoga positions that will seriously spice up your sex life.

1. Unleash Your Inner Animal

The Pose: Cat / Cow Pose

How It Works:

This simple movement is more than just a beginner pose. Circling your hips will make your pelvic area more mobile while also strengthening your all-important Kegel muscles. According to Bassett, “The sensual movement helps tap into your inner sensual (and sexual) creature.”

2. Make Missionary More Exciting

The Pose: Happy Baby

How It Works:

Opening your hips, lower back, and inner thigh/pelvic region will increase your overall flexibility. “Happy Baby is ideal for a more sensual missionary position,” said Bassett. So get in position so that even missionary is more exciting.

3. Open Your Hips (And Your Mind)

The Pose: Frog Pose

How It Works:

Bassett refers to this post as the “Mac Daddy” of poses. It increases blood flow through the inner hips and increases flexibility in this area as well. “We hold a lot of stress in our hips,” the professional yogi said, “The more open the hips the better sex can be physically and mentally.”

4. Tone Your Kegels

The Pose: Bridge Pose

How It Works:

Kegels are perhaps the most important muscles when it comes to spicing up your sex life. Basset reported that the Bridge Pose not only provides an intense hip flexor stretch, but also strengthens the Kegel muscle at the top of the movement.

5. Get Moving & Get Mobile

The Pose: Reclining Bound Angle Pose

How It Works:

This move improves mobility and range of motion in your groin, inner thighs and hips. Even though this is a basic sex move – “It also allows you to get into and hold more mobile positions longer so you can really enjoy sex!” Bassett says.

6. Spice Up Any Sexual Position

The Pose: Half Pigeon

How It Works:

Half Pigeon allows you to hold all of those fun, hard-to-reach positions in bed. It stretches and opens the muscles in the pelvis, thighs and hips. “Tight hips can make sex uncomfortable, and they can also keep you from trying different sexual positions…so open those hips!” Bassett says.

7. Master Reverse Cowgirl

The Pose: Hero’s Pose

How It Works:

Anyone who has ever saddled up and tried Reverse Cowgirl knows that it takes a lot of energy. Bassett told us that Hero’s Pose increases flexibility in hips, legs, and knees, making reverse cowgirl (and regular cowgirl) even more comfortable.

8. Make Your Orgasms More Intense

The Pose: Yogi Squat

How It Works:

This all-purpose pose opens up the hips, ankles, knees, groin, and Achilles all at the same time. Plus, it strengthens the pelvic floor muscles so that you can achieve easier and more intense orgasms in the bedroom.

9. Stimulate Your G-Spot

The Pose: Puppy Pose

How It Works:

“This seemingly innocent pose is one of the hottest positions,” Bassett reports. It simultaneously stretches the spine, shoulders, arms, hips, and upper back. More importantly, it can make it easier for your partner to stimulate your g-spot in any sexual position.

10. In With The Good (Out With The Bad)

The Pose: Circular Breathing

How It Works:

Although not technically a yoga “pose,” focusing on your breathing will help you connect you with your inner self even outside of the studio. One of the best parts about sex is the fact that it allows you to clear your mind – focusing on your breath will make it easier to quiet your mind and stay in the moment.

11. Get Your Partner In On The Action

The Pose: Soul Gazing

How It Works:

Consider this element of partner yoga the ultimate in foreplay. Maintaining eye contact with your partner outside of the bedroom will cultivate a deep level of trust and compatibility. “It also conveys confidence,” Bassett said, “and what’s hotter than confidence in bed?” We couldn’t agree more!
