Women around the world have integrated masks into their everyday routine. Because many US state mandates require masks indoors at stores, malls, and restaurants, they’ve become an accessory that accompanies us from grocery shopping to date night. If you’ve been asking yourself lately – “How exactly am I supposed to wear makeup while I wear this thing?” – you’re definitely not alone.
To get the answer, we turned to Christina Singh. Christina is a hair and makeup professional who has travelled all over creating beauty looks for tv shows, commercials, and photoshoots. She has worked with celebrities and dignitaries like Bobbi Brown and Ambassador Jamie McCourt as well as worked on set for shows such as MOB Wives, RHOD, RHONY and Making the Team: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.
She took time away from her busy life as a mom to help our ESU followers with how to do their makeup in the face of a pandemic.
Makeup + Masks = Lots of Smudging
Christina said, “I know as women we feel more confident with our favorite shade of lipstick or a nice winged liner and some blush/bronzer. Since the pandemic it’s been harder to wear makeup when we have to wear a mask that covers it and smudges it. No one likes traces of their makeup everywhere either.”
So how does Christina keep her client’s masks from ruining their makeup? The trick is finding long-last, transfer-proof products that keep your look from rubbing off on fabric.
“There are so many different amazing beauty products that I have used but these are some of my favorites especially during pandemic,” she said, “I love the wearability and any product that is transfer proof is a huge plus for me.”
Here are Christina’s favorite pandemic-friendly products, all of which help minimize transfer or are completely transfer-proof:
- Urban Decay Setting Spray in All Nighter –
“This product sets makeup. So if you’re wearing a full face, your makeup stays on your face not on your mask.”
- Make Up For Ever Waterblend Fluid Foundation –
“This product evens out your skin without being super heavy. It’s also water-based and transfer-resistant so you can layer it with any full coverage concealer.”
- Urban Decay Stay Naked Weightless Foundation –

- Shape Tape Concealer by Tarte –
“This concealer isn’t moving. It’s full, full coverage and can be paired with either of the above foundations.”
