Mask-Friendly Beauty Tips From An Expert MUA

We recently covered which makeup products are essential when it comes to wearing a mask out in public. Afterall, you don’t want to sit down at your table on a pandemic date night only to find out that your face completely rubbed off on your mask. In this article, we’ll go a step further and let you in on a few beauty tips that will make your pandemic skincare and makeup routine to the next level.

For this, we once again turned to Christina Singh. Christina is a hair and makeup professional who has travelled all over creating beauty looks for tv shows, commercials, and photoshoots. She has worked with celebrities and dignitaries like Bobbi Brown and Ambassador Jamie McCourt as well as worked on set for shows such as MOB Wives, RHOD,  RHONY and Making the Team: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

She took time away from her busy life as a mom to help our ESU followers with their mask and makeup routine.

  1. Watch Out For Breakouts

Fabric constantly on your face means that your skin simply doesn’t get the chance to breathe the way it used to. That means that dirt, oil, and makeup has a better chance to clog your pores.

“Another issue is many of us have found that we have been breaking out a little bit more in areas such as our chin and jawline.” Christina said, “Other than hormone breakouts, this can also be due to the makeup we wear and reusing the same masks. When we wear certain masks, it can rub against our skin and can cause irritation especially when wearing makeup.”

If you find that you are constantly breaking out because of your mask, there are a few products that can help.

CeraVe Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum –

This refreshing gel-cream formula replenishes hydration and restores the skin’s protective barrier.

TULA Skincare Purifying Face Cleanser –

This probiotic gel cleanser goes deep into pores to remove impurities while hydrating skin.

  1. Focus On Your Eyes

According to Christina, “If you’re the kind of person that has gotten used to not wear a whole lot of makeup during the pandemic, doing up your eyes is another great alternative! There are so many different eye looks that are easy to do on the run!”

Looks she loves are:

For Daytime: Pair a classy neutral eyeshadow with a clean, winged liquid liner

For Nighttime:  Create a sexy, smokey eye using a simple shadow stick.

For Anytime: Use only mascara and liquid eyeliner for a quick, go-anywhere look.

“This is hands-down one of my all-time favorite eyeliners. It’s double ended, water resistant and smudge proof.”

  1. Please (Please!) Wash Your Mask

If you only take away one thing from this article, please let it be this!!! Christina said that when it comes to wearing a mask, the worst think you can do is re-use masks that are dirty and covered in makeup.

“Ladies please don’t do it. If you must reuse a mask make sure it’s washable. We have to be as sanitary as possible especially when it comes to our face. I saw someone post this on social media, “Treat your mask like you do your underwear”. Make sure to wear clean masks!”
